During a Doctor visit, the sweet, middle aged physician asked how she was feeling. She was almost embarrassed to reply honestly because whatever her ailment, it seemed trivial, at that very moment, as the Doctor was in a wheelchair. She replied that she still hurt sometimes and was unable to do a few things that she was able to do prior to the injury years ago. 'Sometimes going through rough patches' she responded. He listened intently and said that he understood. His eyes lit up while mentioning that he loves to travel and truly enjoys the JetBlue experience. His last trip had been six years ago, to California, he continued. He went for a job interview, where he was hit by a car while crossing the street. That second in time, changed his life forever. Everything stopped, including his heart. He was paralyzed, he could not work. He needed help in every way and became severely depressed. He was grateful to those that helped him.
He could not imagine living his life, without helping others. He worked extra hard to become a Doctor. He spoke about Darwin and the survival of the fittest and about how attitude can make or break a situation. He spoke about adapting and perseverance. This visit was more than just a Doctor visit for it was a lesson in life. A valuable lesson. This brief encounter reiterated the importance of making the best of every moment. Doctor Sage will always hold a special place in her heart and surely many others. IM
